The new update to Gameloft's mobile runner unleashes Monster Spiders, introduces the game's first female villain, and more!
The Inheritors have been vanquished and the door shut on Spider-Verse, but there’s no rest for the Webslingers in “Spider-Man Unlimited” as the mobile game’s latest update brings new challenges along with it!
Silver Sable leads the charge, teaming with the Sinister Six against our Spideys, including new Monster Spiders like Spider-X and Tarantula. Gameloft’s Tatiana Nahai provided us with more details!
Marvel.com: How does Silver Sable compare to the Sinister Six and the Inheritors as a boss? How does she get involved in the story?
Tatiana Nahai: We’re definitely extremely excited to be bringing the first female villain into “Spider-Man Unlimited.” Unlike the Inheritors and Sinister Six, there’s a conflicted element to Sable; her number one priority as a mercenary is to make money to fund her homeland, so outsiders often view her as swaying between the sides of good and bad, and you can definitely feel that in the story we’re bringing around her. Spider-Man is pretty shocked to see her working for the Sinister Six, and he’s going to be convincing her she’s making a huge mistake. It’s definitely a completely new dynamic to any villain we’ve brought in “Spider-Man Unlimited” before.
Marvel.com: Where did the idea of Monster Spiders come from and who are they?
Tatiana Nahai: That was an idea we at Gameloft came up with, and then worked with Marvel writer Fred Van Lente on the actual implementation! We love the idea of dark and evil Spider-Men; when you have a multiverse storyline with unlimited possibilities, you know there are some really crazy possibilities for Spider-Men out there. But because the dimensional Sinister Six is attacking each dimension, they’ve isolated Spider-Men who might have been dark or evil in the past, and now they have no choice but to join forces with the side of good. Players will get to start the update with Spider-X, a truly awesome looking Man Spider, and end the update with Tarantula, the previous form of our Scarlet Spider. And in between we have some really dark and creepy looking Spiders for players to recruit.
Marvel.com: Explain the concept of Spidey Tiers…
Tatiana Nahai: To simplify it: Higher Spidey Power = Higher Spidey Tier = More Rewards! Your Spidey Power is your multiplier score based on your top 4 highest ranked and leveled up Spider-Men; so the higher they are, the higher your Spidey Tier. And the rewards are just awesome. Based on your Tier, you get new Portals, have better chances to get rarer Spider-Men existing portals, higher rewards in events, and massive rewards for every Tier you reach. It’s our way of rewarding long-term players who are progressing through the game.
Marvel.com: What special events are coming up?
Tatiana Nahai: Players can expect more Clash of Spiders events, where they can join Amazing Spider-Man or Superior Spider-Man’s team, multi-day events around Silver Sable and Spider-X, and special holiday events including a post-Cinco de Mayo celebration, where players can recruit the Aracnido Jr, the Spider-Man of Mexico, from Spider-Verse! There will also be a special Cinco de Mayo portal where you can summon Anya Corazon and Spider-Man 2099, both Spiders of Mexican descent.
Marvel.com: What were the biggest goals of this update?
Tatiana Nahai: After Spider-Verse we aimed to refocus the game’s central story around the Sinister Six, while also going deeper into how villains and Spider-Men are affected by the dimensional turmoil. We have Spidey allies joining the Sinister Six, and monstrous Spiders joining the Spider-Army for an epic clash that will surely get fans of Spider-Man excited.
