The wallcrawler and some amazing friends round out the DLC content!
Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen galactic heroes, Strange magicians, and not-quite-human S.H.I.E.L.D. agents join the cast of “LEGO Marvel’s Avengers.” And while we thought that concluded what Traveller’s Tales had up their sleeves, it turns out those sleeves were hiding a couple of web-shooters.
On the heels of his appearance in “Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War,” Spider-Man makes his way to “LEGO Marvel’s Avengers,” and he’s bringing friends. Fans will be particularly excited to see Miles Morales among the new cast of characters suiting up and joining the fight.
We sat down with Arthur Parsons one more time to get the lowdown on this free surprise character pack.
Marvel.com: Spider-Man has arrived in “LEGO Marvel’s Avengers.” And for free! How did you decide to bring him and some of his web-slinging compatriots to the game as a free DLC pack?
Arthur Parsons: This was an absolute no brainer for us. Throughout the development of “LEGO Marvel’s Avengers” we had so many people ask if Spidey would be in the game, and due to the content of the game he obviously wasn’t in there, however once we knew that he was going to be featuring in “Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War” every single one of us at TT, Marvel, and LEGO involved in development all knew that we had to add him to the roster. Since the main game was pretty much complete we talked things through and decided that the best way to ensure that everyone got to play Spider-Man was to create a free DLC character pack. It’s effectively our thank you to all of the players that have supported us with “LEGO Marvel’s Avengers”—a nice surprise for everyone really.
Marvel.com: What’s the full cast of new spider-characters that are joining the roster?
Arthur Parsons: I guess the roster for the Spider-Man pack is what is probably the most exciting thing, so not only do we have the brilliant Spider-Man outfit as seen in “Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War,” we also have Spider-Man (Peter Parker) and Spider-Man (Miles Morales), so that is three different Spider-Man variants; however we didn’t stop there, and decided to then add in Iron Spider, Scarlet Spider and Spider-Girl—so this character pack is crammed with characters, and they are all so much fun. We really hope that everyone downloads this pack and enjoys playing as each of the different characters, and as always we’ve made sure to make each of them have a unique personality in the game.
Marvel.com: Fans will be amped to see Miles Morales as Spider-Man, and Iron Spider is a classic Civil War throwback. How did you settle on Spider-Girl and Scarlet Spider to fill out the new additions?
Arthur Parsons: Filling out the roster was a case of us all getting on a call and talking through what we wanted to see in the pack. There was no point in us releasing a pack with just the one or two characters, so in order to make sure that we appeased all of those Spider-Man fans we wanted to ensure we had a great diverse mixture of Spider-Man content, and we really can’t wait to see and hear reaction to this pack. Fans of our games really are the best fans out there, and so we wanted to make sure our thank you was as special as they are.
Marvel.com: This is the last pack currently planned for “LEGO Marvel’s Avengers.” Which characters, vehicles, locations, or levels ended up on the cutting room floor that you’d have liked to see make it in?
Arthur Parsons: You’d be surprised to know that at TT we really don’t cut anything from the games we make, and “LEGO Marvel’s Avengers” is no exception. Everything we make ends up going into the game, and that is why we end up with so many great characters, locations, and vehicles. When we initially set out to make the game we were planning on a roster of 100 main game characters, 25 vehicles, and a total of 40 season pass characters; the final numbers are significantly in excess of this number, and that is because we use everything we make, and usually end up spending all of our time in discussions with our fantastic partners Marvel and LEGO coming up with plans to add to the game. I think we ended up with over 300 characters in total—main game and season pass together—and over 50 vehicles. I think I still owe the brilliant team I work with a few favors for their efforts actually! Anyhow I really hope that everyone enjoys playing “LEGO Marvel’s Avengers,” and playing the season pass content and the awesome Spider-Man character pack, you’ve all been the best, so thanks from all of us at TT Games.
