The Sinister Symbiote brings new twists to the game as Spidey calls for help!
In the first major event for “Marvel Tsum Tsum” in the U.S., Venom and his Symbiote brethren descend on the Tsum Tsum heroes in an attempt to spoil their efforts to protect the toy store. A bunch of new Spider-Verse heroes come in to join the battle, and adding them to your team will earn special goodies throughout the event. Help your Tsum Tsums combat the Symbiotes while racking up rewards and new levels for your team!
We grabbed a few minutes with Bill Rosemann, Creative Director at Marvel Games, and Danny Koo, Senior Producer at Marvel Games, to get the lowdown on what all these web-slingers get up to in the event.
Marvel.com: How did everyone settle on Spider-Verse for the first “Marvel Tsum Tsum” event following the game’s U.S. release?
Bill Rosemann: With the announcement of the new “Marvel’s Spider-Man” animated series hitting at [New York Comic Con] the same week as the Clone Conspiracy event hitting Spidey’s comic books, the timing seemed perfect to join the fun by unleashing a web of arachnid excitement in Marvel Tsum Tsum.
Marvel.com: What new stages or features will players engage with in this event?
Danny Koo: Symbiotes have invaded New York! This is the first time players will encounter Symbiotes and Venom in their missions to protect New York City from the darkness. Players will encounter the various NYC maps at different times of day. The biggest addition is now this event will track how many points you rack up by destroying Symbiotes and how many times you defeat Venom.
Marvel.com: How will the appearance of Symbiotes change up the flow of the usual game?
Danny Koo: Venom and the Symbiotes pose a test of players’ time management skills. Clearing Symbiotes will get you points, but, at the same time, you need to line up bombs in order to remove them from the map. At a certain point in time, the Symbiotes will disappear from the map on their own, so timing is critical. Venom himself has a timer too. He will appear more often in night stages and in the game, he will run away if you don’t defeat him in time!
Marvel.com: Venom can come in at random, with a higher chance of showing up in night stages. What bonuses can players earn from defeating him?
Danny Koo: We have a scorecard keeping tabs how many times player defeat Venom. Depending on that number, players can obtain anything from ISO-8 boosters, Bomb tickets and Orbs! Everyone loves more Orbs.
Marvel.com: Which characters will be swinging into the Spider-Verse event?
Bill Rosemann: From the friendly neighborhood side of the city, in leap Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Silk, Iron Spider, and Spider-Woman. From villain-ville we have Black Cat and Venom bringing the badness, who are joining Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin already lurking in the game.
Marvel.com: And what incentives do players have to fill their line-ups with Spidey characters?
Danny Koo: If players use any of the Spider characters—Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman or Silk—as their team leader to clear each event mission, they will get bonus points towards their score card. This will help players to fill up their score card quicker.
By the way, make sure you use your points to redeem items! They stop accumulating at a total of 9,999 and you don’t want to miss out on all those precious points you can earn.
