MARVEL PUZZLE QUEST

The fan-favorite Captain America – Peggy Carter of Marvel Puzzle Quest, of course – has tons of in-game activities to support the release of EXILES #3 from Saladin Ahmed and Javier Rodriguez, available in stores and digitally, tomorrow, May 9!

In EXILES #3, Peggy Carter Cap faces off against an apocalyptically armed Red Skull! And the Exiles are just in time to join the fight – ‘cuz they’ve been kicked off their mission! There’s a new team of Watchers in town, and they’re cracking down on the Exiles’ interference in the timestream – even if it means the death of everything. Can the Exiles salvage Peggy Carter’s world, fix the Tallus and get back to saving reality before the Time-Eater tracks them down again?

Meanwhile, in-game, the Peggy Carter Bundle started this week, and kicking off today, we’ve got a Peggy Carter Versus Event as well as an Exiles Limited Vault, where everyone will receive a free Vault token.

Going day and date with the release of EXILES #3, Peggy Carter (Captain America) Champion Rewards are updated to include Captain America (First Avengers) and update Valkyrie to use EXILES #1 (Design Variant).

What exactly does Peggy Carter Captain America have up her sleeves? Her first ability is Ultimate Soldier, a red ability that costs 9 AP. When Captain America has a mission, no one gets in her way. Peggy lands a well-placed blow, ignoring any Protect tiles and dealing damage to the target.

Her second ability, Legendary Presence, is a Yellow Passive, which does not cost AP and is constantly active. When she enters the battle, her enemies panic and falter. While Peggy’s health is above 50%, all enemy abilities cost more AP to execute.

Lastly, Do As Peggy Says costs 11 Blue AP. When Peggy lands a direct hit with her shield, she disables the enemy team and helps her allies get the drop on their target.

Peggy Carter Captain America is earnable in the Unstable ISO-8 Event, this Thursday, May 10, and for an added bonus, this event is double Red Iso-8! Be sure to round out your roster with Peggy Carter in Marvel Puzzle Quest!

MARVEL CONTEST OF CHAMPIONS

For three and a half years, Marvel Contest of Champions has been setting up its own Infinity War storyline. The Mad Titan has been operating in the shadows, collecting the stones, since 2014. It’s been leading to this – a devastatingly epic final boss fight!

We need all the heroes we can get, and this Thursday, May 10, Captain America (Infinity War), complete with his Wakandan vambrace shields, enters the fray as he makes his way into the Contest! If you can’t get enough of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War, pick up this 4-star Steve Rogers whose designs are inspired by the box office hit.

Since opposing the Sokovia Accords, the super-soldier has lost his shield and been forced underground. But with the help of friends new and old, he’s managed to re-equip and remain under the radar, all the while continuing to do what he believes is right – saving the world one clandestine mission at a time.

Cap’s basic abilities including Bleed, Stun, Fury and Kinetic Potential. His vibranium vambraces allows the Captain to store up to 5 Kinetic Potential charges. Summon up several of Cap’s special attacks like My Ally’s Claws, which inflicts Bleed and reduces his opponent’s defensive ability accuracy by 100%; activate Kinetic Discharge by smashing together his vambraces, unleashing a wave of kinetic energy, stunning your opponent; Lead from the Front, which sends his enemy crashing to the mat; and Leadership, where Cap learns from his teammates gaining a unique effect with Kinetically Charge for each class represented on his team, excluding himself.

We recommend mastering: Inequity, with his Signature Ability and the right teammates, Cap is capable of putting a lot of Debuffs on his opponent, allowing him to make greate use of this; Despair, with his natural ability to place Petrify Debuffs on his opponents, this can make for a powerful combination; and Petrify, where Cap can do a lot of Stunning, both through Well Timed Blocks, and through his Special 2 Attack, allowing him to keep the Petrify effect active for much of the fight.

See our fearless leader in action below and be sure to grab him this Thursday!

MARVEL FUTURE FIGHT

Do you know what makes this week EXTRA special? Marvel Games and NetMarble are celebrating the third anniversary of Marvel Future Fight!

We know you’re loving the previously revealed Avengers: Infinity War tie-in event. Once you’ve tackled that, Marvel.com had a great chat with Marvel Games executive creative director Bill Rosemann and senior producer Danny Koo about their favorite memories, and what’s to come. Check out an excerpt below, but head over here to read the full interview!

Marvel.com: What about your favorite content update?

Bill Rosemann: The Marvel Games team loves the X-Men, so it was an honor and privilege to help unleash – and continue to usher through subsequent updates – the mighty mutants into Marvel Future Fight.

Danny Koo: Every update, I am excited about the growth of the character roster and new features that players can enjoy. Shadowland is perhaps my favorite update, because you can take a simple idea of a ladder and make it a challenge that is thematically appropriate.

Also, when heading to your local comic shop this week, be sure to grab this Marvel Future Fight variant cover of RISE OF THE BLACK PANTHER #5, on sale this week, featuring a cover by Netmarble Games’ art director Jee-Hyung Lee! (You can also pick up the digital copy here.)

MARVEL CONTEST OF CHAMPIONS

Are you ready to earn the rare title of “Infinity Warrior”? Chadwick Boseman and Tom Holland’s Champion Challenge continues to May 17, to get you trained for the Contest’s upcoming Infinity War event!

Kicking off this week is a brand new quest!

  • INFINITY NIGHTMARE (May 2 – June 6)
Thanos has won. His Infinity Gauntlet complete, and with it, he wields supreme power. Sitting atop the Battlerealm, he issues his first decree: “NO MORE GAMES. THE CONTEST OF CHAMPIONS IS OVER.”Everything grinds to a halt. His children hunt the heroes, who have taken refuge in the Astral Plane. It’s up to an uneasy alliance between M.O.D.O.K., Mephisto, and an army of free Champions, led by Captain America and Iron Man to stop Thanos, or die trying. Help them defeat Thanos now!

MARVEL PUZZLE QUEST

Entering the fray this week, we have one of the world’s greatest spies, the legendary 4-Star Black Widow (Infinity War)! Pick her up in the game starting today here!

Black Widow controls the enemy by Stunning the enemy and destroying their AP and Special tiles. She assists her allies by healing them and reducing the cost of her teammates powers. Pair Natasha’s powers with other characters that can stun enemies (Doctor Strange, Gamora, Ice-Man, Miles Morales, and Spider-Gwen).

  • Lights Out allows Widow to use covert weaponry to ensure no one gets past her stunning blows for three turns and deal 1,461 damage.
  • Defilade lets Nat hack the enemy’s surveillance system to keep herself out of sight and the line of fire, creating 4 invisibility tiles
  • While Black Widow has Invisibility tiles on the board, the power becomes Enfilade, allowing Black Widow to emerge from the shadows and strike out with her batons, surprising her enemy with a tactical strike. This destroys her Invisibility tiles and destroys 4 enemy Special tiles, dealing damage and gaining AP
  • Lastly, Brush Pass allows Nat to pass key intel to her teammate, giving them the upper hand, healing a chosen ally wth 7,159 Burst Health

The Web of Spies versus tournament starts this Sunday, May 6 and runs to Wednesday, May 9!

Meanwhile, in Marvel Puzzle Quest, there’s another badass woman to be on the lookout for — Peggy Carter Captain America!

Peggy Carter Captain America first appeared in Marvel Puzzle Quest during Captain America’s 75th birthday celebrations in July 2016. In this reality, Steve Rogers is killed and Peggy took the super-soldier serum in his place.

You can grab the special Peggy Carter Captain America special Marvel Puzzle Quest design cover for EXILES #3 at your local comic shop next Wednesday, May 9, or grab the digital version here!

Marvel Games' Bill Rosemann and Danny Koo reflect on the dynamic mobile game's third anniversary!

This week, Marvel Games and NetMarble are celebrating the three years of Marvel Future Fight and the fans, heroes and True Believers who make the mobile game an amazing success!

Marvel Future Fight entered their third year with an Avengers: Infinity War tie-in event that saw our heroes facing the greatest threat yet—Thanos! With this impressive update, Marvel.com took the time to sit down with Marvel Games executive creative director Bill Rosemann and senior producer Danny Koo to discuss the hit mobile game as well as what’s to come!

Marvel.com: What were your first memories of working with Netmarble on Marvel Future Fight?

Bill Rosemann: What I remember most about beginning the journey with Netmarble on Marvel Future Fight is how intense and quick our first weeks together were. I had just relocated my family across country and on my first day at work in the Marvel Games office, I was told, “Okay, we’re launching this new mobile game in six months…go!”

Danny Koo: Marvel Future Fight was the first mobile game I started overseeing when I joined the team. The development team and I definitely hit the ground running to work towards the introduction of World Boss mode. Of course we didn’t stop there – we collaborated on the huge Shadowland update and Marvel Future Fight’s first original character – Captain America Sharon Rogers!

Marvel.com: How has the relationship between Netmarble and Marvel grown and strengthened over the years?

Bill Rosemann: The team at Netmarble has proven that they are True Believers of the highest order, going above and beyond in their efforts to create the greatest amount of – and just plain great – content for players with each and every update. The number of different characters, suits, event content and supporting visuals that they create each month is staggering. Through their diligence and efforts they’ve forged bonds of trust that can withstand even the power of Thanos himself!

Danny Koo: In terms of relationship, it has definitely been steadily strengthening over the years. The Netmarble team totally understands how to bring Marvel characters to life. The astounding number of characters that have been released in the game so far just shows how well our teams work together. I have made several trips to South Korea to visit the Netmarble team and celebrate with them for all the efforts they have put forth so far. Of course there might be some roadblocks along the way, but that’s a normal part of development. We huddle over those obstacles quickly and move on with even more determination.

Marvel.com: What is your favorite part of being involved with Marvel Future Fight?

Bill Rosemann: My favorite part of being involved in Marvel Future Fight is working through the entire creative process. We begin by discussing each 12-month plan, strategizing on which new characters should be added to the game and when they should be added, and then we see the Super Heroes and Villains come to life through the progression of two-dimensional designs, to three-dimensional bodies, to finally seeing them leap to life via in-game action. Oh, and when each a new piece of key art is created, from black-and-white sketch to final full-color art – it’s an artistic thrill every time!

Danny Koo: My favorite part is definitely the collaboration with Netmarble to create all-new, original characters, such as Captain America Sharon Rogers and Luna Snow. Those two characters are important to me and it’s amazing that Sharon Rogers has even gotten her own Funko POP! I’m looking forward to creating more original products based on Marvel Future Fight. Creating original content is a huge priority for me on this game.

Marvel.com: What are your future plans/hopes for the game in the coming years?

Bill Rosemann: I hope that the talented team at Netmarble continues to unleash wave after wave of amazing character and gameplay scenarios that keep players around the world fighting… for the future!

Danny Koo: I hope Marvel Future Fight continues to attract audiences from different corners of the world. We all want new exciting modes and original content for Marvel Future Fight and we will continue to work together to strive towards that! Here’s to another year to come!

Marvel.com: Who’s your favorite character in Marvel Future Fight?

Bill Rosemann: As much as I love our take on classic characters like Spider-Man, Black Widow and Hulk, there’s also a special thrill seeing our own unique characters like Sharon Rogers Captain America and Luna Snow being embraced by the Marvel Future Fight family.

Danny Koo: I have two favorite characters – Captain America Sharon Rogers (a.k.a. ShaRog, as the fans nicknamed her) andLuna Snow, the first Marvel K-Pop Super Hero!

Marvel.com: Can you describe the experience of developing original characters for the game?

Bill Rosemann: They may be digital creations, but the long and intense process of creating an all-new character who can stand alongside the legendary Iron Man, Daredevil and Captain Marvel…well, that’s a special adventure to be a part of. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank the Netmarble team for teaming with us and working so intently to introduce new heroes worthy of the name Marvel, and we also thank every Marvel Future Fight player who has embraced them. Bring on the cosplayers!

Danny Koo: Developing original characters takes time especially when come to collaboration. On Marvel Games side, we need to ensure that they are authentic Super Heroes and able to tell compelling stories. We also have so many characters in the Marvel Universe that we need to ensure the new character can carve up an unique space on their own. Also, we need to give Netmarble some iteration time in order to give the original character the most awesome treatment. So, in reality, we need to give Netmarble Monster some space and time to have the power to develop the original character that embodies the soul of a Marvel Super Hero with creativity in mind!

MARVEL AVENGERS ACADEMY

In the world of Marvel Avengers Academy, our young heroes can’t seem to catch a break between exams and super villains hellbent on destruction. Marvel.com writer Justin Synder caught a few minutes between classes to chat with Allen Warner, Lead Narrative Designer at TinyCo, to get you all the details on the Jessica Jones event, inspired by “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” the first two seasons streaming exclusively on Netflix.

Marvel.com: What brings Kilgrave out of the woods now?

Allen Warner: New York has been decimated by the recent attacks of government-created Hulks, and the entire world is panicked because of the imminent arrival of Thanos. Being the sleazy manipulator he is, Kilgrave takes advantage of the chaos by using his mind-control powers to set the city’s most powerful crime families against one another. As they knock each other out one by one, he assumes control of their resources and minions, quickly turning himself into the new kingpin of crime. As you can guess, this immediately puts him in the crosshairs of not only the Defenders and the Avengers, but rival criminal masterminds like Madame Gao and Kingpin.

Marvel.com: Jessica has quite a history with him. How will their past influence the event and her story?

Allen Warner: In our world, they’re both younger, and have yet to really cross paths. As an investigator and a hero, Jessica knows about the seedy side of the city, so she knows about Kilgrave being an arrogant scumbag who’s done horrible things, but it isn’t as personal or serious as it’s been portrayed in the comics and TV show. That being said, she doesn’t have any respect or patience for manipulative people like Kilgrave, so she takes it upon herself to shut down his operation, and make it very clear that he isn’t welcome in her city.

Marvel.com: What new faces will we see join the Academy as Kilgrave puts his scheme into action?

Allen Warner: Our new character this event is the Hood. We thought it would be cool to being in an antihero who would have a personal vendetta against Kilgrave for ruining his own criminal operation. The Hood has an amazing power-set, and some interesting history to play off with characters like Doctor Strange and Mysterio and Mephisto, so it made for some really cool interactions and stories. His visual levels look awesome, and his top visual rank is probably the most wicked looking character we’ve ever featured in Avengers Academy.

In addition to the Hood, we’ll also be bringing back Jessica Jones, Hellcat, and Luke Cage. These are a few of my favorite characters we’ve ever featured in the game from their visuals to their animations to their stories. It’s a lot of fun to bring them back together again along with some of the other Defenders to see how they deal with Kilgrave, and how they view the looming threat of Thanos.

Marvel.com: Seems like our heroes will need some new tech to combat Kilgrave and his mind control abilities. Who suits up in new gear to bring the fight to Purple Man?

Allen Warner: We’re adding awesome new outfits for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Spider-Woman. Two are all-time classics from the comics, and the third is a more obscure choice that’s a perfect fit for dealing with both Kilgrave, and the threat on the horizon. Each one completely changes the look and vibe of their respective character, and I think people are really going to enjoy adding them to their campus.

Marvel.com: Kilgrave as a villain differs quite a bit from most we’ve seen at the academy. What was it like to write him and this story?

Allen Warner: Having removed the most atrocious acts that he hasn’t committed in our universe, we’re left with an arrogant, egotistical, sarcastic, insecure sociopath, which actually makes him pretty similar to quite a few of our villains, and even a few of our “heroes.” It was actually really interesting to bounce those traits off of the other characters, and see how they each react. One of my favorite things about the story in this event is that it’s the first time we’ve spent a lot of time watching the various villains interact, and it’s really interesting to see the natural hierarchy, and in some cases, unexpected heroism, that results from their rivalries. It turns out that heroes like Jessica Jones aren’t the only ones who want to knock the smirk off Kilgrave’s face.

Marvel.com: Thanos still lurks on the horizon. Can we expect to see him make his move soon?

Allen Warner: VERY SOON. I can’t wait to finally reveal the secret origin of the Avengers Academy universe, and talk about all of the amazing new heroes and outfits we created to help our heroes win the Infinity War.

Channel the Power Woman in her event starting this Thursday, April 12. Download the mobile game on Google Play and iTunes.

Try out the new feature beginning April 10!

Want more firepower for your favorite “Marvel Puzzle Quest” crew? Then you’ll love their newest feature: Supports! An awesome new addition to “Marvel Puzzle Quest,” players can equip these items and get nice little bonuses to help bring the pain.

We talked to D3 Go! Senior Producer Josh Austin about Supports everything they bring to the “MPQ” experience.

Marvel.com: I’m super geeked about Supports. What do we need to know about them?

Josh Austin: Supports are places, people, vehicles, gear–anything that helps make a Marvel hero or villain who they are. They’re collectible, durable items that you equip to your 3, 4, and 5-star characters. They get stronger as their rank and level increase. I also want to note an all-new resource called Red Iso-8 that is used to level-up Supports. Red Iso-8 is earned through event rewards, special offers, and when receiving additional Supports that you already own.

Marvel.com: So we can equip our favorite champs with cool items that make them stronger in battle?

Josh Austin: Correct. Each Support works with families of characters. So finding Korg, the player can attach the Korg Support to any Thor family character to get bonuses to health, extra chances to gain additional AP at match start, deal more damage and even a bonus for attaching Korg to Thor (Gladiator), which will create a Yellow Protect Tile whenever Thor (Gladiator) fires a power. There is going to be a lot of fun ways that players can connect Supports with their favorite Marvel characters.

Marvel.com: Dude sign me up! How many are we thinking that will be released to players at the start?

Josh Austin: The initial launch will include 14, the feature is new and is currently the most we plan to release at one time, unless we feel like going crazy at some point in the future. The first batch is rolling out with a group of various Marvel families followed by an “Infinity War” theme that we look forward to share more about in a couple of weeks. We have so many batches already planned and in various stages of completion, it’s not going to be a try a few and it may go away, we have strong plans for it and can’t wait to see what the players do and/or achieve with these Supports!

Marvel.com: Do you have any favorites?

Josh Austin: My favorite Support in the first wave is the Quinjet. It creates strike tiles, deals extra damage to those pesky Dark Avengers, increases character’s maximum health and deals more damage for Green and Red matches. The icing on this one is it’s one of the few that supports the affiliated team, which means powers fired by supported characters deal extra damage for each active Avenger on the team. This helps a couple of my favorites Grey Suit Black Widow, Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) become even more powerful and I can swap out the third Avenger slot depending on the fight.

Marvel.com: And what kind of synergies do they promote? What kind of playstyles/heroes will see the most obvious benefits?

Josh Austin: There aren’t too many yet that promote a synergy in the form of an affiliation, but there are plenty of synergies that can be gained depending on the players favorite characters. For example, there are a lot of Supports that have one perk that allows the player to gain extra AP in a color, for example, Quad Blasters grant an extra bonus chance of collecting Green AP when supported characters fire a power. This can be super handy for getting AP for those high-cost powers.

Marvel.com: And will the team be iterating on new Supports alongside new characters?

Josh Austin: Yes and no, we have so many groups of Marvel characters in the game already that we will have enough to do for a while with Supports.  I can say that they will match character releases a lot, but don’t want to say we are only locking into this as a plan.

Marvel.com: When is all this stuff rolling out to players?

Josh Austin: Supports are going live on Tuesday, April 10. Red Iso-8 will be rewarded in events following the build going live.

Try out Supports soon here and stay tuned to Marvel.com for more “Marvel Puzzle Quest” news and interviews.

The strong red background and confident pose of our more experienced hero sends an immediate message to the world that this is a bold new take on everyone’s favorite Web-Slinger. To showcase the unique look of our Spider-Man in his all-new swanky Advanced Suit, his pose takes inspiration from over 50 years of classic Spider-Man comic book covers and art. Educated fans of the Wall-Crawler will see nods to the work of J. Scott Campbell, Mark Bagley, John Romita Sr., John Romita Jr., Joe Quesada and (of course) Steve Ditko, as well as many other iconic Spider-Man artists.

You’ll see this box art on the standard edition of “Marvel’s Spider-Man” when it’s available at retail and digitally for $59.99. You’ll notice we haven’t revealed the entire Collector’s Edition statue, just Spider-Man perched on top of something. What could he be crouched on? Stay tuned!

No matter where you buy it, or which Edition you select, if you pre-order you’ll get special items. Whether it’s a Spidey Suit Pack featuring the fan-favorite Spider-Punk suit from the Spider-Verse comics event (as well as two additional suits we will reveal this summer), the Spider-Drone gadget, a PSN Avatar, an original PS4 theme designed by renowned artist Adi Granov, or extra skill points to unlock your favorite Spider-Man talents sooner – our pre-order bonus is the total package! And if that’s not enough, we’re revealing even more details in the cover story of this month’s issue of Game Informer! The GI crew visited the Insomniac Games studio (which is conveniently just 15 minutes from the Marvel Games office), went hands-on with Marvel’s Spider-Man, talked to myself – and Insomniac Creative Director Bryan Intihar, Art Director Jacinda Chew and more members of the dev team — and will bring you the biggest look at the game yet! Plus we asked famed AMAZING SPIDER-MAN cover artist Alex Ross to create this powerful painting for the issue’s cover!
