Actors Armitage, Adsit, Balaban and Mitchell cast in key roles for spring 2018 series.

Marvel New Media and top podcast listening service and content network Stitcher (“Heaven’s Gate,” “Katie Couric,” “The Paris Review”) today announced “Wolverine: The Long Night,” the first-ever Marvel scripted podcast, launching in spring 2018. The 10-episode series will be available exclusively on Stitcher Premium until fall 2018, when it will see a wide release across all podcast platforms.

The show’s cast includes notable actors Richard Armitage (“The Hobbit”), Scott Adsit (“30 Rock”), Bob Balaban (“Moonrise Kingdom”) and Brian Stokes Mitchell (“Mr. Robot”).

The “Wolverine: The Long Night” story is a captivating hybrid of mystery and the larger-scale fantasy of the Marvel Universe. It follows agents Sally Pierce (Celia Keenan-Bolger) and Tad Marshall (Ato Essandoh) as they arrive in the fictional town of Burns, Alaska, to investigate a series of murders and quickly discover the town lives in fear of a serial killer. The agents team up with deputy Bobby Reid (Andrew Keenan-Bolger) to investigate their main suspect, Logan (Richard Armitage). Their search leads them on a fox hunt through the mysterious and corrupt town.

The process behind the making of “Wolverine: The Long Night” brings Marvel’s storytelling expertise into the podcasting world, breaking new ground for the medium. To provide listeners a sense of immersion into the story, outdoor scenes will be recorded in realistic-sounding locations including forests and a cabin. In the studio, actors will be recorded in an ambisonic — or fully surround-sound — environment, allowing them to move, interact with one another and fully inhabit their characters.

“‘Wolverine: The Long Night’ brings our fans a whole new way to experience our iconic characters and the Marvel Universe,” said Dan Silver, vice president, head of platforms and content for Marvel New Media. “This tremendous cast will bring a thrilling level of intrigue and drama to our listeners. The character of Logan and this landscape make it the ideal premiere vehicle for us, and we’re excited to continue to explore the dynamic possibilities of the podcast medium.”

Also cast in the series are actors Zoe Chao, Chaske Spencer, Jordan Bridges, David Call, Michael J. Burg and Lannon Killia. Chris Gethard, host of the popular “Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People” podcast, also will make a cameo appearance.

“Podcasting is an incredible, intimate medium that’s perfect for telling stories, and I can’t think of a better partner with whom to push the boundaries of scripted podcasts than Marvel,” said Erik Diehn, CEO of Midroll Media, a podcast industry leader and the parent company of Stitcher. “They make every translation of their rich universe of characters into new media fresh and interesting while still retaining the feel and spirit of the original comics, and, as a Marvel fan, I’m proud that we’ve helped them do it again in podcasting. The arrival of Wolverine and his many fans to podcasts and Stitcher is truly a signal that this medium is a major part of the American media landscape.”

Stitcher and Marvel have assembled a writing and production team of veterans from both the comic book world and the podcasting industry. “Wolverine: The Long Night” is written by award-winning comic book author Ben Percy (“The Wilding,” “Red Moon”) and will be directed by Brendan Baker (formerly a producer for Radiotopia’s “Love & Radio”). Chloe Prasinos (formerly a producer for Gimlet’s “Reply All”) will oversee sound design. The series is produced by Daniel Fink of Marvel and Jenny Radelet of Stitcher.

The legendary Wookiee helps a young girl save her people from slavery.

Each week Star Wars Spotlight combs through the digital archives of Marvel Unlimited to showcase one classic story from that distant galaxy filled with Jedi, Sith, princesses, scoundrels and droids.

Certain beings have a tendency to draw specific personality types to them. Call it a trick of the Force or happenstance, but that just seems to be the way of the universe. For Chewbacca, the renowned Wookiee and hero of the Rebellion, dashing heroes with a bad side seem to seek his sturdiness out as a kind of ballast.

In STAR WARS CHEWBACCA, the 2015-2016 five issue limited series by Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto, our favorite Kashyyyk native happened to have landed on a planet called Andelm-IV that needed help. Before even seeing Chewie we met a brave young woman named Zarro and her father Arrax who ran afoul of the local gangster Jaum.

The villain had set up an operation turning locals into slaves and making them mine the Beetle Caverns. Arrax hatched a quick plan to get Zarro out of the mine. Once topside, she eventually allied herself with Chewbacca who had taken to a Sabacc table in order to make enough credits to buy a part to fix his ship.

Zarro tried to convince Chewie to help her planet, but finally agreed after she mentioned that they’d basically been enslaved and no one in the galaxy seemed to care. With some true muscle at her back, Zarro allowed herself to get recaptured. She activated a tracker that told her new partner her location. He struggled with the tight entrance because of his time as a captive years prior, but pushed through to help.

Their mission succeeded, but Jaum’s enforcer Tyvak did try to blow Chewie up, which did not sit well with our furry friend. Having escaped the treacherous mines and gotten the captives to freedom, Chewbacca and Zorra teamed up once again to stop Jaum for good.

They then enlisted a local inventor named Sevox to get droids and explosives to achieve their goal. Loaded up with tools and disguises, Chewie and Zarro made their way into Jaum’s hangar where the plan kind of blew up in their faces. A firefight quickly broke out followed by the malfunction of their droid bomb and the capture of the freedom fighters.

Transported up to an Imperial Star Destroyer, Zorra and Chewbacca acted quickly on their feet and convinced the ship’s commander that Jaum’s true alliance lied with the Rebellion! She even wove the existence of the droid bomb into her story, so when it blew up, the Empire believed her lies!

The duo made it back to Andelm-IV in a stolen TIE Fighter. After a teary goodbye, Chewbacca made his journey back to Kashyyyk where he presented a young Wookiee with the bandoleer of his or her fallen mother or father, a fighter in the war against the Empire. Having achieved his initial goal, Chewbacca returned to the stars with some assistance from the recently arrived Millennium Falcon.

From the Jedi Temple Archives

What would a hoodlum like Jaum want with Andelm Beetles that he’d go so far as to enslave people and make dangerous deals with the Empire? Well, their larvae contained a mineral called dedlanite that could be used to make blasters. With the Imperials on a back foot after losing the first Death Star, they needed to make sure their Stormtroopers and other agents remained well-armed against the growing threat of the Rebellion.

Next week, Mark Schultz and Galen Showman pay a royal visit to Padme in STAR WARS: EPISODE 1 – QUEEN AMIDALA.

Commemorate Veterans Day with Marvel and others as we encourage you to #BeThere!

Every year on Veterans Day, across the United States we join in celebrating the service of our nation’s heroic military Veterans. For 2017, Marvel, along with The Walt Disney Company and Johnson & Johnson, in partnership with The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) honored our Veterans while also showing support to the VA’s ongoing efforts to care for these real life heroes.

The VA joined forces with Johnson & Johnson to create a moving PSA featuring voiceover by Tom Hanks in support of the VA’s #BeThere campaign and other lifesaving initiatives associated with providing help to Veterans. Can the combined Avengers and Fantastic Four halt a Hulk-Thing fight?

1917 to 2017: 100 years of Kirby.

Join us to celebrate Jack “King” Kirby’s 100th birthday by learning about the characters and stories he created that changed comics forever. To commemorate Jack’s centennial, we’ve sat down with the modern-day creators he influenced—and the decades of work he gifted us all.

An old philosophical question once asked, what happens when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object? Well, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby didn’t answer that one, but they sure dug into what takes place when the Incredible Hulk comes to blows with the ever-lovin’ blue-eyed Thing! The two titans came to blows in the pages of FANTASTIC FOUR #25 and #26 from 1964 and the very Earth shook! It all started with Thing refusing to take an accidentally discovered serum that could have cured him of his rocky visage because he didn’t know if Alicia Masters would still love him as just Ben Grimm.

Meanwhile, The Hulk wanted peace and quiet after his fight with his old teammates in AVENGERS #3. The group quickly replaced him with Captain America, but still wanted to find their errant ally. The Jade Giant decided to get rid of every trace of Bruce Banner and smashed up his secret lab. He then saw the newspaper about Cap’s return and Rick Jones palling around with him. Feeling jealous and spurned, Hulk decided to hop to New York City and “destroy the Avengers forever.”

With Earth’s Mightiest Heroes actually near the old lab looking for Hulk, he jumped right past them and wound up causing such a ruckus that the FF took notice and moved to stop him. With Reed Richards out of commission and both Johnny and Sue Storm quickly felled by the emerald brute, Ben Grimm took it upon himself to stop the rampage. This duo had come to blows previously in FANTASTIC FOUR #12, but this time they tore through buses, buildings, and even the street to clobber one another. Thanks to some help from the Yancy Street boys, the pair wound up fighting underwater and then on boats before moving on to the George Washington Bridge!

Moving into issue #26, Hulk continued to call for the Avengers, but Thing still stood to fight another day, or at least a few more rounds! A battered Human Torch even got back in on the action, but the Fantatsic twosome didn’t stand a chance. Hulk messed them up and then went to Tony Stark’s mansion to visit his old friends.

What is Marvel Unlimited?

Hulk tore into the Avengers who gave as good as they got. A rejuvenated Reed Richards soon led his own team to attack Jade Jaws as well, but all those heroes together proved more calamity than anything else. After figuring out how to actually work together, both crews converged on Hulk who had perched himself on a skyscraper construction site. Though the combined might of the Avengers and Fantastic Four could barely stop the rampage, Rick Jones wound up saving the day by tossing an “emergency gamma-ray treated capsule” that Banner had supplied him with months prior.

Hulk ran off, jumping into the water and soon turned back into Bruce, floating along to his next adventure. With that, both teams pledged to work well together in the future and returned to their own lives with an unspoken promise from Kirby and Lee that, when that happened, it would be just as exciting and groundbreaking as this time!

Stay tuned to for more throughout Kirby Month and beyond! And join the conversation on all of our social channels with the hashtag #Kirby100.
