Listen to episodes 1 and 2 of the new scripted podcast now!

Today, Marvel and top podcast listening service and content network Stitcher (“Heaven’s Gate,” “Katie Couric,” “The Paris Review”) have released the first two episodes of “Wolverine: The Long Night,” Marvel’s highly anticipated first-ever scripted podcast exclusively on Stitcher Premium. The 10-episode series will continue to air weekly on Stitcher Premium and see a wide release across all podcast platforms in fall 2018.

Early praise for the show highlights its “shrewd sound design” and “clear and compelling” action. Vulture.com calls it “a bold experiment for Marvel,” and Wired says “sound design has never mattered more” and that the show successfully “manages to place the listener truly within the story…”

The “Wolverine: The Long Night” story is a captivating hybrid of mystery and the larger-scale fantasy of the Marvel Universe. It follows agents Sally Pierce (Celia Keenan-Bolger) and Tad Marshall (Ato Essandoh) as they arrive in the fictional town of Burns, Alaska, to investigate a series of murders and quickly discover the town lives in fear of a serial killer. The agents team up with deputy Bobby Reid (Andrew Keenan-Bolger) to investigate their main suspect, Logan (Richard Armitage). Their search leads them on a fox hunt through the mysterious and corrupt town.

“This is a story about deception, unreliability, identity, atonement, and man in the wild and the wild in man,” explains Ben Percy (“The Wilding,” “Red Moon”), show writer and award-winning comic book author. “Every character has a secret. Every scene has a question mark at the end of it. And I can’t wait for you to hear the phenomenal actors who have brought the story to life—and the next-level sound design that make this audio drama like nothing you’ve ever heard. SNIKT!”

In addition to Percy, Stitcher and Marvel have assembled a production team of veterans from both the comic world and podcasting industry, including director Brendan Baker (formerly a producer for Radiotopia’s “Love & Radio”), and sound designer Chloe Prasinos (formerly a producer for Gimlet’s “Reply All”). The series is produced by Daniel Fink of Marvel and Jenny Radelet of Stitcher.

“It’s been an honor to work with Marvel, Stitcher, and our entire cast and production crew to bring Wolverine’s story into audio,” says Baker. “I’m so proud of what we’ve made together, and can’t wait to finally share it—with Marvel fans and podcast fans alike. So put on a nice pair of headphones, close your eyes, and experience this Marvel story where you create the pictures in your mind.”

The process behind the making of “Wolverine: The Long Night” brings Marvel’s storytelling expertise into the podcasting world, breaking new ground for the medium. To provide listeners a sense of immersion into the story, outdoor scenes were recorded in realistic-sounding locations including forests and a cabin. In the studio, actors were recorded in an ambisonic—or fully surround-sound—environment, allowing them to move, interact with one another and fully inhabit their characters.

“We are excited to officially launch ’Wolverine: The Long Night’ and bring a truly unique storytelling experience to our fans,” says Dan Silver, vice president, head of platforms and content for Marvel New Media. “We are thrilled with the enthusiasm for this project from our fans and the podcast community, and look forward to exploring the medium in the future.”

In addition to Armitage, the show’s cast includes notable actors Scott Adsit (“30 Rock”), Bob Balaban (“Moonrise Kingdom”), and Brian Stokes Mitchell (“Mr. Robot”). Also cast in the series are actors Zoe Chao, Chaske Spencer, Jordan Bridges, David Call, Michael J. Burg, and Lannon Killea. Chris Gethard, host of the popular “Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People” podcast, will also make a cameo appearance.

Comedians Big Jay Oakerson and Dan Soder create a Frank Castle inspired dish!

Get some sweet revenge with today’s episode of Marvel’s Eat the Universe!

In the latest installment of the show, comedians Big Jay Oakerson and Dan Soder join celebrity chef Justin Warner for a little Punisher-inspired fare!

In celebration of Frank Castle’s Italian roots, the trio craft a delicious Italian Wedding Soup. And the result is worthy fuel for some hardcore vigilante heroism!

Watch the episode above, then dive into the recipe below to try it yourself! And for stand-up tour dates, go to www.DanSoder.com and www.BigJayComedy.com!

For the broth:
– 3lbs beef marrow bones, split (but any beef bones will do)
– 1 onion, split
– 1 inch knob of gigner, split
– 4 cloves of garlic, smashed
– 1 stick cinnamon
– 5 cloves
– 3 pods cardamom
– 20 black peppercorns
– 4 pods star anise
– kosher salt, for punishing
– water to cover

For the meatballs:
– 1/2 lbs ground beef
– 1/2 lbs ground pork
– 2TB minced parsley
– 2TB minced basil
– 1/2 cup Parmesan
– 1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs (or whatever)
– 1 egg
– kosher salt, for punishing
– ground black pepper, also for punishing

For the greenery:
– 1 head escarole, ripped up and wiped clean

For the egg stracciatella:
– 2 eggs
– 1/4 cup grated Parmesan

Instructions:
(If you don’t have a pressure cooker, no big deal. Simply follow the instructions but allow the stock to simmer in a stock pot for about 3 hours, then follow the directions from the point of pressure release.)

Combine all of the broth ingredients in the pressure cooker and fill with water until the ingredients are covered. Lock the lid on the pressure cooker, set to high pressure, and cook for 15 minutes once pressure is obtained.

Meanwhile, make the meatballs. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients with a tender touch. The more you mash, the tougher the meatballs, or at least that’s what Frank Castle told me. Season the mixture with plenty of salt and pepper, and maybe just a little more than you think.

Roll into balls and refrigerate until it’s time to finish the soup.

Next, make the stracciatella by mixing together the cheese and eggs, then refrigerate until you are ready to finish the soup.

Once the broth has cooked, carefully strain out the veggies, spices and bones. Any little bits of meat or marrow stuck to the bones are good to eat with a little salt and make a fine mini-boss reward, because you are about half way done with this recipe.

Once the broth is strained, transfer to a container to cool. Once cool, a hard layer of fat will form on top. I like a fair amount of fat in my soup, but you can scrape it all off and add as much as you like once the soup is hot.

Reheat the broth to a boil, then add the meatballs one by one. Once the broth returns to a boil, punish with more salt and pepper to taste. Finish by adding the escarole and the slowly drizzling the egg stracciatella while stirring. Serve immediately with a side of revenge for a complete meal.
