Preview this brand new statue from Kotobukiya!

It’s been three years since the smash hit, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” where the galaxy was saved from Ronan the Accuser and the Kree fleet by a group of misfits and outlaws with nothing but pure will (and a little groove) on their side. From the long-awaited sequel, Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”, comes the now infamous Star-Lord, a.k.a. Peter Quill, and the re-born Groot in 1:6 (ARTFX) scale!

Star-Lord is rendered in exacting detail (by referencing actual film assets) in a pose to blow you away with his quad blasters! You can enjoy various display options through the additional headpieces by switching out his helmeted head, or taking on and off his headphones. Go inside production of the popular Japanese magazine with C.B. Cebulski!

As more and more fans catch on around the world, Marvel has started to see a growing recognition in international media. A popular Japanese magazine called “Pen Plus” recently devoted an entire issue to all things Marvel.

We caught up with C.B. Cebulski, who helped arrange this Marvel extravaganza.

Marvel.com: Can you give us a little background on the “Pen Plus” Marvel issue?

C.B. Cebulski: We’ve seen the Marvel brand growing in Asia pretty rapidly, especially over the last three to five years. But we’ve had a bit of a tougher time in Japan, honestly, because we see so much domestic competition, from the large amount of manga and anime, to a lot of home-gown, live-action hero shows. Even the domestic film industry in Japan does extremely well, both live-action and animation. But over the last few years, that has started to change, thanks not only to our films but also some of the things that Disney Japan has done with apparel and with the “Marvel Tsum-Tsum” game that came out last year—just some really innovative ideas. So we’ve seen a lot of focus on the characters, the heroes, and everyone loves the red brick logo.

“Pen” approached us through Disney Japan, and they didn’t just want to do an article, they wanted to do a whole issue, from the first page to the last page, focusing on Marvel. The primary writer was Akihide Yanagi.

Marvel.com: Can you tell us a little more about “Pen Plus”?

C.B. Cebulski: “Pen Plus” is a very prestigious Japanese magazine in terms of pop culture, design, and that young adult audience of 20- and 30-somethings who consider themselves worldly, international, and into cool photography and cool topics.

Marvel.com: How did you get involved with this project?

C.B. Cebulski: They approached one of our friends at Disney Japan, Michiko Hashida. I’d consider her one of Marvel’s biggest supporters in the Disney Japan organization. She works really tirelessly to help build Marvel, not just because it’s her job but because as a fan, she also loves this stuff. And she got in touch with the editor at “Pen Plus,” Yoshihiro Watanabe, who had this idea and brought it to me. We in turn brought it to Dan Buckley, Axel Alonso, and Tom Brevoort at Marvel, and arranged everything from there. It included a trip for them to New York to meet with the editors and do photo shoots for two days, they went to the set of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” for a couple days, they had access to Marvel Studios. So it was really comprehensive, anything you could possibly want to know about Marvel. Then they went back to Japan, talked to a lot of our partners there about what comics they’d published, they talked to Japanese celebrities who love Marvel, and really showed Marvel as the cool company we all know it is but other people there might not.

Marvel.com: What was your experience like, connecting with others at the magazine?

C.B. Cebulski: I loved it. I could sit here and talk about Marvel all day. I’ve loved Marvel since I was a kid, and I have the dream job; I wake up every day with a smile on my face. And in working with “Pen Plus,” it struck me as interesting because I take certain things for granted; I assume that people know about Peter Parker, or they know who’s under the Iron Man armor. But talking to people who don’t know that stuff, it always feels eye-opening for me to realize how much I know about Marvel, but how little I sometimes know about what other people know about Marvel, and how much room we have to grow, and that really helps me do my job.

An interview with Lil B on his work, Black Panther, and more!

In addition to now being part of the Black Panther family, you were already an avid Marvel fan way before you got involved with this project. What comics got you hooked?

I mean, of course you know, X-Men—biggest X-Men fan. I was planning on getting a tattoo of Carnage actually, who is one of my favorite characters. One, because of how well he’s drawn.  But, you know what definitely got me…X-Men. I like X-Force. I think that’s what kept me going. X-Men, X-Force, stuff like that.

Say you could have one super-power, what would it be?

I think Storm has the dope-est power, being able to fly and shoot the thunder and lightning. I think I was always a big fan of Storm when it really came down to it.

Is there a particular Marvel hero you like or relate to the most?

I really like Nightcrawler. He can crawl around and disappear and stuff like that. I’m surprised no one likes Nightcrawler. Everybody always goes with Cyclops or something.

Switching gears to hip-hop, who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Musically, some of my biggest influences…pretty much rap music as a whole. I really appreciate and love thinking about pioneers in rap music and the folks in NYC, so I really just want to appreciate all them and everybody: jazz, and rock and roll, just everybody that had a part of hip-hop. That’s what I’m really inspired by, people that gave us the ability to make beats and the metronome, and whoever gave us the ability to create sound from scratch in an MPC. That’s who I really love and am inspired by because they’re giving me the opportunity to express myself and be an individual.

What do you consider your proudest musical achievements in your own career?

Well, I would say right now my proudest achievement is what’s coming: Black Ken mixtape produced and composed solely by the BasedGod. This is going to be my best work. I feel like my career starts now. I feel like nothing is compared to what’s coming. I’m creating new sounds from scratch and actually creating my own sound patches, not doing samples, I’m actually acquiring sound, recording live sound. For Black Ken, let me give you an example: I have some bass drums that I have created in Berkley, CA, and I won’t tell you from what but when Black Ken comes out I’ll be more specific like where this bass drum comes from or these sounds, etc.

It’s about to be real “Marvel”-lous. This is about to be my best work. I learned, I took this whole year to sit back and learn a new bit of music theory to define my skills as a musician and I hit a new breakthrough in production and been working with the BasedGod. It’s about to be a wrap. I just tweeted out, around maybe 2010 or 2009, I let the world know I’m going to be a freshman in the XXL Magazine and the next year I did that. So I let the people know just today (and this is a BLACK PANTHER first exclusive news break that I’m breaking with y’all), I let the world know that I will be getting a Grammy so that’s next on the play and I’m standing by that.

I know it can seem crazy but, like, if I would have told you [then] what I would be doing [now]…it would have seemed crazy. If I would have told you back then that I’m going to be lecturing at Carnegie Mellon, it might have sounded a little more crazy and then some.

It’s 100% true. I don’t really like to say too much. But I know it’s coming.

Finally, what up-and-coming artists do you think could be the next big thing?

I’m learning everything…Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, these folks that are being extremely positive. D.R.A.M., Mac Miller, Clams Casino, Keyboard Kid…and the BasedGod is going to have a huge breakthrough in 2017 production-wise. Oh yeah, big fan of A$AP Rocky and what he’s doing. I got love for Soulja Boy… still my brother, still got love for him. The Pack, got love for them, too. But Lil B, man, the BasedGod. It’s about to be a real serious year for me; nothing will compare to what’s coming. For myself, nothing I’ve ever done will compare to now, sonically, just everything. A lot of people believe in me and I gotta do this for y’all.

'Avengers: Infinity War' opens in theaters May 4, 2018

  3. Robert Downey Jr. still fondly remembers the Mark 42 from “Iron Man 3”
  4. “Avengers: Infinity War” kicks off with tension as Captain America is still on Iron Man’s “S-List”
  5. Reflecting on his appearance in the first “Iron Man” to “Avengers: Infinity War,” Downey says “[Tony Stark] has matured a bit. What has changed is the universe around him.”
  6. Stark’s universe now involves Peter Parker, the Guardians and Doctor Strange now
  7. Joe and Anthony Russo have never fought on set
  8. The three Avengers the Russo brothers would go on a family vacation with: Tony Stark, Peter Parker, and Vision

  10. Thanos will be “the most frightening villain the Avengers have ever faced;” he’ll show us all why he’s “the biggest, the best, the baddest villain that we’ve ever had”
  11. The Avengers are completely unprepared to face Thanos as a result of the events of “Captain America: Civil War” leaving the Avengers a team name with no team members.
  12. Get ready for the Guardians of the Galaxy / Avengers team-up as we see Thor fighting alongside Rocket Raccoon
  13. The Russo brothers confirm two films will be deeply connected – “these next two Avengers films will be an event like no one has ever seen on film before”
  14. Downey drives that point home as we’ve come to learn the next two Avengers will be filmed back-to-back for a “year of fun-filled lensing”
