Series returns to Netflix in 2018!

Marvel Television and Netflix announced that multiple award-winning actress and director, Lucy Liu (“Elementary,” Graceland”) is directing the premiere episode of the second season of the Netflix original series “Marvel’s Luke Cage,” set to premiere in 2018.  All 13-episodes of the first season of “Marvel’s Luke Cage” are now streaming on Netflix.

In addition to a slew of television and film credits, Liu made her directorial debut in 2011’s short film, Meena and also directed four episodes of the CBS series, “Elementary.”

“Lucy and I have been tight since our ‘SouthLAnd’ days and she’s a welcome addition to our Luke Cage family. She brings the same buoyant intensity, deft humor, and singular focus to her directing that she has always brought to her acting….not to mention the fact that the former ‘O’Ren Ishii’ certainly knows her way around an action sequence,” said series executive producer and showrunner, Cheo Hodari Coker. “Her enthusiasm is infectious.”

“What a thrill to collaborate with Marvel and Netflix, two industry titans, who paint our world with inspiring stories and beguiling characters,” remarked Lucy Liu. “It is such an honor to work with such a passionate and fearless team.”

“When you’re dealing with a bulletproof man, it helps if you have a bulletproof Director,” said executive producer Jeph Loeb. “Lucy brings a keen eye, a superb sense of story, and an obvious love of actors.  She is rocking Luke Cage 2.”

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a man trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City.

Cast ft. Milana Vayntrub, Derek Theler, Jeremy Tardy, Calum Worthy, Matthew Moy, & Kate Comer

Marvel Television, Freeform and ABC Signature Studios today have completed casting for “Marvel’s New Warriors,” their previously announced new comedic live-action adaptation of the popular Marvel comic featuring young adult heroes. “Marvel’s New Warriors” marks Marvel’s first foray into comedy for a live-action television series slated to debut in 2018 on Freeform, Disney’s young adult television and streaming network.

Not quite super, not yet heroes, “Marvel’s New Warriors” features six young people learning to cope with their abilities in a world where bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.

Meet your New Warriors:

Milana Vayntrub (“This Is Us,” “Silicon Valley”) as Doreen Green a.k.a Squirrel Girl
Doreen is a totally empowered fangirl who has the incredible powers of a… squirrel. Her greatest quality is her optimism and her best friend is a pet squirrel, Tippy Toe.

Derek Theler (“Baby Daddy”) as Craig Hollis a.k.a Mister Immortal
Craig can’t die… or so he says. Although Craig’s superpower seems amazing, he hasn’t made use of it at all—he figures if he has all the time in the world to learn how to do anything heroic, what’s the rush?

Jeremy Tardy (“Dear White People,” “Ten Days in The Valley) as Dwayne Taylor a.k.a Night Thrasher
Brilliant and noble and maybe a bit full of himself, Dwayne is a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur who also deeply believes in justice.

Calum Worthy (“Austin & Ally,” “Cassandra French’s Finishing School”) as Robbie Baldwin a.k.a Speedball
Robbie is an impulsive people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls of energy that are completely out of control.

Matthew Moy (“2 Broke Girls, “Steven Universe”) as Zack Smith a.k.a. Microbe
Zack is a shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you’ve been, what you ate and with whom you hung out with. It’s impossible to keep secrets around him.

Kate Comer (“Hello My Name is Doris,” “The Comeback”) as Deborah Fields a.k.a. Debrii
Deborah is proud, funny and quick-witted. A low-level telekinetic, very low like she can move a paper cup.

“I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors. They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters. It’ll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them,” said series executive producer and showrunner Kevin Biegel.

“We’re so lucky to have assembled such a diverse and incredibly talented cast,” said executive producer Jeph Loeb. “We can’t wait for the fans to see what’s in store when we unleash these iconic characters into the world!”

“At Freeform, we are committed to finding distinct and entertaining characters that our audience can enjoy and relate to,” said Elizabeth Boykewich, senior vice president, Casting and Talent, Freeform. “We are excited to be working with Marvel Television to bring these fiercely average superheroes to life and watch them take on the world.”

The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Kevin Biegel (“Cougar Town,” “Enlisted”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s The Defenders,” “Marvel’s Punisher”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Marvel’s Inhumans”) as executive producers.
